Soccer Goal
A soccer goal is scored when one team kicks the ball past the end line into the other team’s goal area. The goal itself makes up only a small portion of each of the short sides of the field. The dimensions of the goal are 24 feet (8 yards) wide by 8 feet (2.7 yards) tall. Compare that to the short end of the field, which is 50-75 yards wide, and you can see the small area that qualifies for scoring.
The timing and precision required for a soccer goal is why the matches are such low scoring events compared to most sports. A 6-5 soccer match would be considered a defenseless scoring fest. In Addition to the goal size, you have to not be off side, you cannot use your hands, and you have to beat a goalkeeper that can use his hands.
With all those counters, not to mention the entire other team attempting to stop you, its little wonder that man soccer matches end tied, some even at 0-0. Scoring a soccer goal is little more complex that a touchdown in football, or a basket in basketball. It’s set up to be more difficult, which makes the goals themselves more exciting and memorable.
