Soccer Shorts

Soccer shorts never quite went through the awkward white tiny shorts phase that basketball jerseys were graced with. Or maybe graced isn’t quite the right word. After all, the sight of Larry Bird or John Stockton in a set of hot pants is more than a little bit disturbing. In any event, soccer shorts were never quite that bad.

That is not to say that soccer shorts were never small. They were small, but soccer has always been less of a privileged man’s sport. More importantly, soccer is less of an American sport than any other widely popular sport. If one were to take the popularity of US football, basketball, and baseball together, they would approach the fervor for international soccer.

When the world cup occurs, which is once every four years; entire countries shut down for hours to watch their team compete.  The soccer shorts the team wears are instantly en vogue, no matter how they actually look. Which isn’t to say they’re ugly, a lot of time and effort goes into the entire ensemble, including shorts.
